Shorash Omer Calls for Justice in Brother’s Unresolved Murder
In an interview with Kurdfile Media, Shorash Omer, the brother of Hersh Omer—a Kurdish activist killed during a December 2017 demonstration in Koya—spoke out against the lack of accountability in the case.
“Courts in Kurdistan don’t have the power to enforce criminals. My brother’s killers are still free, and many other suspects are out there in the community,” Shorash stated, highlighting systemic issues in the region’s judicial system.
He expressed deep frustration over the continued impunity but took a moment to thank the Kurdish community in the UK. “I thank those in the streets supporting my family and other families who are victims of freedom of expression and their rights,” he said, referencing the recent protests organized by the Dakok Organization in Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, and Glasgow.
Shorash’s remarks echo a broader call for justice and accountability for victims of political violence in Kurdistan.
