The game of power and opposition in the Region

I have never believed in the existence of an opposition in the Kurdistan Region. Everything that has existed, both now and in the past, has been a group of businesspeople and people seeking their own interests, whose aim has been to enrich themselves under the concept of being an opposition, and the authorities have used them to destroy the people’s trust in change.

After gaining the people’s trust and becoming a number in the political equation of the Region, their magic very quickly becomes ineffective, and they rush to obtain positions and ministries and to enrich themselves under the name of participating in the government. Their aim changes from changing that system and authority to becoming partners in that system and authority.

Shaswar Abdulwahid and his movement, the New Generation, are the latest version of fooling the people under the guise of opposition. After winning 15 seats in the election in the previous period, they slipped themselves into an agreement with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and signed an agreement with PUK President Pavel Talabani under the name of changing the system of governance.

Shaswar and the New Generation played this game in return for turning a blind eye to Pukhlawat and being exempted from taxes and their corruption within the PUK-controlled area. The gains from that agreement were the protection of the capital and the pardoning of the movement’s president, Shaswar Abdulwahid, as well as obtaining Iraq’s Ministry of Environment for Sarwa Abdulwahid, the sister of the movement’s president, and turning a blind eye to the cases against them in court.

The gain for those in power was the disappearance of trust in any opposition within politics in the Kurdistan Region, and it was the final nail in the coffin of the opposition, and the people’s trust was lost forever…
