From resilience to the imposition of poverty on the people!

Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region’s caretaker government, instead of providing basic public services, continues to find reasons to repeat the phrase, “I thank you for your resilience.” In reality, this kind of gratitude toward citizens is an admission of his government’s undeniable failure and has become a slogan used in place of genuine accountability.

The resilience of the people in their struggle to obtain their most basic rights—such as salaries, electricity, clean water, and justice—is neither an act of heroism nor something they have chosen willingly. Rather, it is the consequence of despair and of conditions imposed upon them in which daily life has become a constant struggle for survival under Masrour Barzani’s administration.

The people of Kurdistan are not only criticizing Masrour Barzani’s unfulfilled promises; they are also condemning the absence of an independent national institution capable of holding those in power accountable for their decisions and for the abuse of their public offices, and of bringing them before the courts.

In any country governed by the rule of law and an independent judiciary, the failure to provide citizens with their fundamental rights would constitute grounds for urgent legal proceedings—not an excuse for delivering speeches detached from reality. What is needed is comprehensive structural reform, the prosecution of those responsible, and accountability, rather than the continuation of political rhetoric that fails to resolve any of the existing problems.

The people do not need verbal expressions of gratitude or political slogans. They need their rights, justice, and legal accountability for everyone who holds public office—whether that person is the Prime Minister or any other public official.
