Starving Us Is Not Governance: Kurdish Activists Protest in London Against Salary Injustice
On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Kurdish activists from across the UK gathered outside the Iraqi Embassy in London to protest what they called “deliberate economic strangulation” of the Kurdish people by both the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
They were all chanting together ‘ Barzani’s government
Master of theft and plunder ‘
Diyar Rzgar, a member of Dakok Organization and one of the key speakers, said,
“Proudly, today as a member of Dakok, we took a stance by organizing this protest as a historic position to support our people against the humiliation of the nation’s dignity and the denial of salaries.”
He condemned both the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) for using public sector salaries as political weapons.
“By both the PUK and the KDP, the people are deliberately starved,” Rzgar declared. “The issue of salaries has been turned into a political bargaining chip.”
Protesters also accused Baghdad of ethnic bias and failing to treat Kurdish citizens with equal rights.
“The Iraqi government consists of Shia, Sunni, and Kurds all three are corrupted by theft and crime,” said Rzgar, calling for international attention and democratic reform.
The demonstration, organized by Dakok, marked yet another chapter in growing Kurdish diaspora activism across Europe.
