The People Must Rise Against These Two Families
During a recent seminar organized by Dakok, activist Bashdar Ata Mohammed delivered a striking message that left no room for ambiguity. With firm and direct language, he called out the ruling forces in the Kurdistan Region for their role in deepening poverty and civil hardship.
“Today, we held a special seminar organized to affirm once again that we, as always, at Dakok, stand for the rights of the people in the Kurdistan Region,” he began.
Bashdar made clear who he believes is responsible for the current crisis:
“I hope that the people of Kurdistan will be liberated from the grip of these two families, or will rise against them.”
Referring to the long-dominant PUK and KDP, he accused both parties of causing the widespread suffering and economic collapse now unfolding in the region.
“These two families are the root cause of the salary cuts and the suffering of civilians.”
Public frustration continues to grow as over 50 days have passed without government salaries or wages, leaving families without income while political leaders remain unaccountable.
He concluded with a sobering reality that many across the region feel but few are willing to say openly:
“Unfortunately, the rate of poverty in the Kurdistan Region has significantly increased and this is due to the governance of both the PUK and the KDP.”
Bashdar Ata Mohammed’s words reflect a rising demand from within civil society: an end to political monopoly, and a return to governance that serves the people not entrenched family interests.
