Parliamentary Elections of Iraqi Kurdistan
Baran Ghafar Ahmed
The announcement of elections in the Kurdistan Region, as we have seen in previous years, has always taken place in a situation that is unstable, tense, and full of conflict.
On 20/10/2024, the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament of Iraq will be held, to form a government and establish a new outlook.
The stealing of people’s votes, which the KDP and PUK have done for decades, has been through fraud and manipulation of votes, in order to gather the most seats and votes again, and continue and extend their corrupt ruling system.
The result of the rule of these two ruling parties has been:
- Reducing and eliminating freedom of expression
- Arresting and imprisoning journalists
- Selling parts of the land of the Region for money and their personal interests
- Stealing the wealth of the country
- Not giving the people their rightful economic share
- Becoming richer themselves and enriching their families
For this election, I am confident that the people of the Kurdistan Region are much more aware and conscious than to give their votes to them and allow them to remain in power if the votes are not rigged.
I hope that for this term, the Independent High Electoral Commission of Kurdistan and the Iraqi Federal Election Commission will supervise the election process thoroughly and truthfully, and stay far from fraud.
