Kurdish Activist Speaks Out in Manchester on 15th Anniversary of Sardasht Osman’s Assassination
Manchester, UK — May 5, 2025
Peshwaz Haidar Sleman, a young Kurd from Southern Kurdistan, delivered an emotional reflection on the assassination of Sardasht Osman during a protest held in Manchester. Speaking to a KurdFile correspondent, Sleman revisited the chilling memory of the journalist’s murder and was asked what, if anything, has changed after fifteen years.
“The perpetrators still walk free, and the truth behind Sardasht Osman’s murder has yet to be revealed to the public,” the correspondent noted.
In response, Sleman affirmed:
“As an activist, I will never forget Sardasht’s rights. I will continue to participate in actions like these to expose the true face of the authorities in the Kurdistan Region.”
Sardasht Osman was abducted on May 4, 2010, in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. To this day, his killers have not been arrested.
His case remains a symbol of impunity and a reminder of the ongoing struggle for truth and justice in Kurdistan.
