A Reporter Attacked and Tortured by PUK Security Forces
Kurdfile: Avin Ata, a reporter for Zoom News TV, was assaulted and subjected to physical and psychological abuse by local security forces while covering the killing of a peasant in Khurmal district on Sunday.
In a video posted on the channel’s website, Ata revealed that he had been brutally tortured by the Kurdistan National Union (PUK) security forces. Doctors have advised him to rest for at least a week to recover from his injuries.
The attack on Avin Ata is yet another example of the Kurdish regime’s pattern of violence and intimidation against journalists. In Kurdistan, the killing, torturing, and harassment of journalists has become a disturbing norm, with several reporters currently imprisoned without any legitimate charges.
