Reports Allege Iran-KDP Understanding Over Kurdistan Parliament and Iranian Kurdish Opposition Groups

Kurdfile London

Unverified reports allege that Iran gave the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) the green light to reactivate the Kurdistan Parliament in exchange for the party agreeing to the removal of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups from the Kurdistan Region, including ending all support for Hussein Yazdanpanah, leader of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK).

These allegations have not been independently confirmed. However, representatives of the Iranian Consulate in Erbil visited the Kurdistan Parliament today to congratulate its new leadership.

Meanwhile, a local media outlet, citing an unnamed source, reported that Iran is working with the Iraqi government on a plan to relocate camps housing Iranian Kurdish opposition groups from the Kurdistan Region to provinces in southern Iraq.

According to the source, the KDP has expressed support for the proposed relocation plan.

Kurdfile previously reported that Shia factions within the Coordination Framework, the ruling alliance of Iraq’s main Shia political parties, had proposed during one of their meetings relocating Iranian Kurdish opposition groups to southern Iraq, where they would be placed under strict Iraqi government guard.

No official confirmation has emerged regarding the alleged understanding between Iran and the KDP or the proposed relocation arrangements.
