Whenever you see the media of the KDP and PUK talking about “Kurdish identity” and “threats to Kirkuk’s identity,” know that behind the scenes they are engaged in a new family based deal at the expense of people’s blood.
KDP and the Barzani family: (losers’ maneuver)
Those who stalled the political process in Kirkuk for seven months and opposed appointing any Kurdish governor (just because the position wasn’t theirs) have now suddenly become defenders of Kirkuk!
The KDP only wants Kirkuk as a “pressure card”; if it’s not for the family, then let the city stay in crisis. The shouting and crying you now see on their social media is not for “national feeling,” but for the seats they lost.
PUK and the Talabani family: (slogan sellers)
The other side is no better; the PUK, in order to obtain the governor’s post, was ready to make all kinds of deals with Arab and Turkmen sides. They want to claim “victory,” but the truth is they have made Kirkuk a victim of preserving their family power in Sulaymaniyah and Baghdad.
The plain truth for citizens:
Ongoing betrayal: The history of both families is full of behind-the-scenes agreements with occupiers and opponents of the Kurds, just to weaken each other.
Manipulative media: Both sides’ media exploit people’s emotions to hide the truth; the truth is that to them Kirkuk is only an “oil field and positions,” not sacred national land.
Awareness:
The time has come for the people of Kurdistan to understand that Kirkuk is only “Jerusalem” or the heart of Kurdistan when it generates money and positions for these families; otherwise, to them, Kirkuk is just another ruined city.
Do not be deceived anymore by the slogans of “patriotism” from those whose history is only about protecting family interests at the expense of the people’s will.
