Lack of Independence of the Courts in the Region

An independent court must never, at any time, take its source from any party, any group, or any specific individuals. Rather, the court must take its source from its neutrality and independence.

Unfortunately, in the Kurdistan Region, under the authority of the KDP and PUK, the courts have never been independent. Rather, the courts are completely partisan and personal.
The yellow zone has its own private court, and the green zone also has its own private court.

Through the use of the military forces and security forces of the Region for the benefit of their parties, and through threatening and pressuring judges, and through making many fabricated cases for detainees, they run and control the courts.

Because of this confiscation of the courts, many bad consequences emerge, such as:

• Lack of freedom of expression,
• The creation of a country without law, and
• The loss of safety and security in the lives of the people.
