Kurdish Activists Demand Salaries, Deliver Memo to Iraqi Consulate
Manchester, June 26, 2025
In a powerful demonstration of grassroots activism, Kurdish political activist Miran A. Rahim a participant member outside the Iraqi Consulate in Manchester, calling for justice for teachers and public employees in the Kurdistan Region who have been deprived of their salaries for months.
More than 50 supporters gathered as Rahim publicly read and submitted a strongly worded memorandum addressed to the Iraqi government. Written in English to draw international attention, the document condemned both Baghdad’s silence and the entrenched corruption of the ruling PDK and PUK.
“This is not just a protest, it’s a call for justice and dignity,” said Rahim. “We will not accept silence in response to our people’s suffering.”
The memorandum, which collected over 40 supporting signatures from the community, demands:
- Immediate payment of delayed salaries
- Transparent distribution of public funds
- An independent investigation into financial misconduct by Kurdish ruling parties
- A formal public response from Baghdad
Consulate staff accepted the document and assured Rahim it would be passed to the relevant authorities. They also committed to sending an official reply via email.
Rahim emphasized that if this peaceful initiative is ignored, it would mark not the end, but the beginning of “greater pressure and louder voices.”
“Justice delayed is dignity denied,” Rahim declared. “We will not stop until dignity is restored for our people.”
This Memo follows a wave of discontent across the Kurdish diaspora and reflects growing frustration with both local and federal governments accused of turning livelihoods into political bargaining chips.
