Let Sardasht Osman’s Martyrdom Mark the End of Bloodshed
At a demonstration held in Manchester to mark the 15th anniversary of Sardasht Osman’s assassination, activist Jwtyar Nabi himself a survivor of political violence after being beaten during a 2015 protest in Ranya by more than 20 Asayish forces, delivered a powerful statement condemning the ruling parties in the Kurdistan Region.
“We, the youth, have been sacrificed under the rule of both the KDP and PUK,” Nabe declared, emphasizing the ongoing repression faced by activists and journalists. “Sardasht Osman is gone, but his name has become a symbol of freedom of expression and so have our dreams and hopes that were buried with him.”
Calling for an end to the culture of violence, Nabe urged both parties to stop the bloodshed and allow Kurdish youth to pursue their aspirations in peace. “Let this be the end,” he said. “Let our youth reach their dreams.”
