Urgent Appeal for Sherwan Sherwani’s Life
Barzan Sherwani, the brother of imprisoned journalist Sherwan Sherwani, has warned that Sherwan’s health condition has seriously deteriorated, while no responsible authorities have intervened to provide assistance.
Sherwan Sherwani began a hunger strike on 22 April 2026, coinciding with Kurdish Journalism Day, in protest against his treatment and in demand of his legal rights. He is calling for his case to be transferred outside the Kurdistan Region’s “yellow zone” jurisdiction in order to remove it from the authority of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
Kurdfile Media urgently appeals for immediate international attention and intervention regarding the worsening health condition of Sherwan Sherwani.
