Regay Azadi Organization Demonstrates in the UK Against Corruption in Kurdistan Region

MANCHESTER – August 20, 2025 – The Regay Azadi Organization staged a demonstration in the United Kingdom, with media coverage provided by Kurdfile, to denounce what they described as a century-long pattern of corruption and exploitation by the ruling elites in the Kurdistan Region.

Speaking at the protest, organization member Mohamed Hassan delivered a sharp condemnation of the political dynasties that have dominated Kurdish politics about land control, and public wealth by authorities.

“Unfortunately, for a century, the Barzani and Talabani families have plundered the wealth and resources of the Kurdistan Region,” Hassan said. “For decades, the ruling elites of the PUK and KDP have seized public land and property for personal, partisan, and family gain. Today we are here to say with one voice: Enough! We can no longer remain silent in the face of this destructive reality.”

He further stressed that such practices amount to treason against the Kurdish people, accusing both ruling parties of exploiting political power for personal enrichment while the public continues to suffer.

“This land must be used for the benefit of the people, not for the profit of political parties and a handful of individuals. This is not governance in a free and just society – this is the betrayal of the Kurdish people!” Hassan declared.

The demonstrators also called on the international community, the European Union, and global human rights organizations to intervene and pressure the Kurdish authorities to halt the ongoing seizure of land and resources.

The protest reflected growing frustration among Kurdish activists in the diaspora, who continue to demand accountability and reform in the Kurdistan Region.
