Exiled but Unbroken: Dakok Organization Leads Protest for Sorani Mama Hama in the UK

Manchester – July 21, 2025
Members of the Dakok Organization and Kurdish activists gathered in seven major cities in the UK. Kurdfile attended in front of the Iraqi Consulate in Manchester to condemn the assassination of journalist Soran Mama Hama and denounce the ruling parties in the Kurdistan Region for decades of repression, corruption, and political violence.

Seventeen years after Sorani Mama Hama was gunned down near his home in Kirkuk, no one has been held accountable. The protesters say this silence is not accidental but the result of a judicial system controlled by the powerful families of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

“These two families are thieves, suppressors, cowards, and ruthless killers,” one demonstrator declared during the protest. “Anyone who dares to challenge their interests will undoubtedly be killed or arrested.”

The Dakok Organization, which champions freedom of expression, justice, and human rights for Kurds in the diaspora, organized the protest not only to commemorate Sorani Mama Hama but also to highlight the broader pattern of political assassinations, including those of Kawa Garmyani and Sardasht Osman.

The protest ended with a moment of silence for all journalists and activists who lost their lives fighting for truth, followed by chants demanding justice, freedom, and international attention to the crimes committed by Kurdistan’s ruling elites.
