Activist Dilshad Zebari Arrested in Akre for Social Media Posts
Akre – July 1, 2025 | Kurdfile Media
Kurdfile Media has learned that well-known social media activist Dilshad Zebari was arrested today, Monday, July 1st, in the central market of Akre, located in the Duhok Governorate. According to local sources, Zebari was detained by a security force in the area, sparking concern among civil society and press freedom advocates.
The arrest was confirmed by Idris Mohammed, a close friend of Zebari, who wrote on Facebook:
“A security force in Akre has taken my dear brother Kak Dilshad Zebari into custody. He is a respected individual, known for his principled stance, outspoken views, and is a well-known civil activist in Akre… We hope he is not subjected to harm and is released as soon as possible.”
Zebari is known for his bold and often satirical critiques of the government, especially regarding the ongoing salary crisis. His most recent social media activity included a satirical post criticizing the authorities’ failure to pay public sector employees.
Sources close to Kurdfile Media have confirmed that Zebari’s family contacted the Akre security department, who responded briefly:
“He is with us and is in good health.”
Kurdfile Media strongly condemns the arrest, calling it a clear act of repression against free speech. We demand all charges against Dilshad Zebari be dropped and that he be immediately and unconditionally released.
