Turkey Accused of Illegally Drilling Kurdish Oil Near Zakho

Kurdish activist Islam Zebari reports that Turkey is drilling oil wells near Zakho, using inclined drilling to siphon Kurdish oil into Turkish borders, violating international laws. Meanwhile, Kurdish leaders are under scrutiny for misappropriating oil profits.

Islam Zebari, a Kurdish activist with a background in Military Sciences and International Relations and Diplomacy, has released a concerning report about Turkey’s oil drilling activities on the borders of the Kurdistan Region. According to Zebari, Turkey is drilling oil wells near the village of Shinava, under the administration of Zakho in Dohuk Governorate. The report alleges that Turkey is employing inclined drilling techniques to extract oil from the Kurdistan Region, diverting it into Turkish territory.

Experts have weighed in on the situation, confirming that such actions are a blatant violation of international laws. This activity not only infringes on the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region but also raises serious ethical and legal questions about Turkey’s conduct in the region.

Adding to the controversy, a Kurdfile reporter has highlighted that Kurdish leaders are currently selling 310,000 barrels of oil daily. However, for the past six months, not a cent of its profit has been used for government purposes. Instead, all the revenue has been divided between the two main Kurdish parties, the KDP and the PUK.

Zebari’s report, combined with these allegations of financial misappropriation, has sparked outrage and concern among Kurdish officials and the international community. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is expected to address these allegations and consider diplomatic or legal actions to protect their natural resources and territorial rights, as well as to ensure transparent and equitable use of oil revenues.
