KRG’s Financial Mismanagement: November Salaries Still Unpaid

As the world celebrates Boxing Day, Kurdish citizens are grappling with financial uncertainty, still waiting for their November salaries. The October wages were only disbursed in late December, leaving public sector employees and their families struggling to make ends meet during the holiday season.

This delay is part of a recurring pattern of mismanagement by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Despite generating a reported 452 billion dinars in monthly domestic revenue—enough to pay six months of salaries annually—the government has failed to use its funds to address the salary crisis. Instead, it has relied solely on allocations from the Iraqi government, which have only covered nine months of salaries this year.

The late payment of October wages highlights the KRG’s inability to manage its finances effectively or prioritize its citizens’ basic needs. With no clear plan to resolve the ongoing salary delays, public frustration is mounting. Many accuse the KRG of neglecting its responsibilities while ordinary people bear the brunt of the economic hardship caused by the government’s inefficiency.

For many, the wait for November salaries is not just a financial burden but a symbol of the growing disconnect between the KRG and the people it claims to serve.
