Barzani Foundation Seizes Education Lands for Housing

The Director General of Education of Sulaimani reveals that 182 dunams of land belonging to Bakrajo Agricultural High School have been secretly allocated to an investor for housing projects, sparking outrage and threats of resignation.

In a shocking revelation, Dilshad Omar, the Director General of Education of Sulaimani, announced in a media interview with the Gorran Movement that 182 dunams of land from Bakrajo Agricultural High School were covertly handed over to an investor for housing projects by a secret decree from the Council of Ministers and the Prime Minister’s Office. This decision was made without the consent or knowledge of the Ministry of Education.

“The land that was registered under the education sector 52 years ago has now been transferred to BAREZ Company for residential projects,” Omar disclosed. The land, originally allocated to the Ministry of Education in 1970 by a decision of the Revolutionary Leadership Council signed by Ahmad Hassan Bakr, has been a critical resource for educational purposes.

Omar expressed his dismay, stating that the land transfer is detrimental to the educational infrastructure and the future of students. “If the order is not canceled by August 20, I will resign from my post,” he declared, emphasizing his commitment to preserving the educational land.

The land transfer has sparked widespread concern, as it involves powerful political and business figures. A source within the Ministry of Education reported that several attempts had been made by Faraidun Abdulqadir, a former member of the PUK Political Bureau, and Yasin Mahmoud, director of the company, to secure the land.

Documents obtained by Draw media indicate that the Directorate of Public Housing of the Ministry of Finance acknowledges the land as property of the Ministry of Education. Despite this, a letter signed by Mohammed Shukri, head of the Investment Board, confirmed the allocation of the land to a private company, purportedly to develop all components necessary for the Ministry of Education.

According to KURDFILE The decision has not only outraged education officials but also the broader community, who see it as a blatant example of corruption and misuse of public resources. The Barzani Foundation’s involvement further highlights the deep-seated issues of power and privilege that plague the Kurdistan Region.

It may look strange byt currently most of the Kurdish schools are in need of new buildings and currently students can only attend classes for 3.5 hours , there are mostly two or three shifts in a day for a school!

Kurdfile: Barzani Family managed this work for BAREZ company to get 1,000 apartments in return but now the plan is changed and media is aware of it!
