While Kurdistan Struggles, the President’s Wife has a $7 Million American Mansion
KurdFile Media | Exclusive Report | May 18, 2025
While the people of Kurdistan have endured decades of war, poverty, salary cuts, and mass emigration, new evidence reveals the extravagant life of the Barzani family funded not by private entrepreneurship, but by decades of political power, access to public wealth, and the suffering of an entire region.
In a shocking investigation made by KurdFile Media, documents and property records link Nabila Barzani, the wife of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, to a multi-million-dollar luxury estate in the heart of McLean, Virginia, just minutes away from Washington, D.C.
The property House No. 1224 on Mottram Drive — is nestled among diplomatic villas and the homes of Fortune 500 CEOs. Today, it is worth over $7 million. It features marble floors, grand halls, imported chandeliers, and more space than most Kurdish neighborhoods combined.
But that’s not all.
KurdFile has traced this property’s registration to a foreign Caribbean residency held by Nabila Barzani. She is not listed as Kurdish resident. She is not registered under the Iraqi or Kurdistan Region’s name. Instead, she holds citizenship from Cabo Rojo.
Why would the wife of Kurdistan’s highest official need a foreign address and a hidden mansion abroad?
The Watch That Sparked a Trail
This investigation began with a receipt one that exposed a $375,000 luxury watch purchased by Idris Nechirvan Barzani, their son, in a high-end American mall on August 27, 2017 just four days before the anniversary of 31st August ,and a month away from independence referendum that President Barzani passionately defended as a moment of “national destiny.”
While the streets of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah were filled with tension, threats, and fear Idris was buying a timepiece that cost more than the lifetime earnings of a Kurdish teacher. The watch was registered to an address that led us straight to the family’s hidden American empire.
The Public Pays, the Powerful Prosper
To avoid legal scrutiny, the McLean property was quietly registered under another Barzani family member. This is a common tactic among global elites to obscure wealth and avoid accountability. But in the context of Kurdistan where many citizens haven’t received full salaries in years, and where hospitals lack medicine it is nothing short of a scandal.
This is not just a luxurious lifestyle. This is the systematic looting of a nation.
Silence, Distraction, and Denial
There has been no comment from the Presidency. No legal justification. No parliamentary investigation. The institutions of Kurdistan remain silent paralyzed by fear, loyalty, or complicity.
But the people are watching. And the truth is louder than ever.
From Qandil to Qaladze, Zakho to Halabja, the people who built Kurdistan with their blood are asking:
Who owns the future of this land, its citizens, or its rulers?
This report marks just the beginning. KurdFile Media will continue to follow the money, expose the untouchables, and amplify the voices silenced by greed.

Nechirvan is seen as the godfather of Kurdistan a multimillionaire enriched by oil revenues yet no one dares to hold him accountable.
We suffer to rent a room in Erbil and they have luxury villas in the US! This is what they dream for! The day will come where they wish to die… This nation won’t forget their dirty ruling.
