The Parliament of the Kurdistan Region has been closed for more than 500 days!
Andam Kaefy – Activist
I want to begin with this question: When will the playing with the fate of the nation and its people by those in power come to an end?
For more than 500 days, the Kurdistan Region has been without a parliament. In this dangerous situation, while war is ongoing in the region, remaining silent about this legal vacuum is a great betrayal of the nation and the people.
The importance of parliament lies in giving legitimacy to national decisions, not leaving the fate of this people in the hands of one or two individuals, or one or two families.
There is no longer any justification for delaying decisions. The decisive, fate determining decision is that only parliament can make national decisions, so that our land does not become fuel for the wars of great powers. The place for such decisive decisions is the parliament hall, not dark rooms and unlawful agreements made by those who ignore the law.
Enough is enough.
The time for a national decision has come, and a parliamentary presidency must be elected as soon as possible. Any further delay in reactivating parliament is a direct contribution to worsening the situation of the people and the nation and playing with the future of this land. It must not be allowed for any group’s interests to stand above the blood of the martyrs and the bread of the people.
