KDP and PUK Will Fall – Just Like Assad”: Kurdish Activist Speaks Out

By HarkI, D – Journalist

In an exclusive interview with Kurdfile, a Kurdish activist who participated in an event organized by Dakok Support Centre—under the umbrella of Dakok for Freedom Rights—spoke about the killing of 10 Kurdish civilians, including children, during the violent crackdowns between February 17 and early April 2011.

“KDP and PUK Are Not Stronger Than Assad”

Chawder Mahdi, an activist dedicated to fighting for a better Kurdistan, shared his unshakable belief that the era of dictatorship in Kurdistan and Iraq will end.

“The rule of PUK and KDP will collapse because they are not stronger than Bashar Al-Assad,” Chawder said.

He pointed to Assad’s downfall, noting that the once-powerful Syrian president has now been forced into exile in Russia. He believes Kurdistan’s ruling elite will face a similar fate.

“A New Generation Will Rise Against Dictatorship”

Despite the deep-rooted corruption and oppression in Iraqi Kurdistan, Chawder remains hopeful.

“I am certain that a new generation will emerge to end this dictatorship in Kurdistan and Iraq,” he declared.

For Chawder, his struggle is not just political—it is personal. Forced to flee for his safety, he dreams of returning to a free Kurdistan where he can see his mother again.

Will Kurdistan’s Rulers Face the Same Fate as Assad?

With ongoing protests, political crackdowns, and economic turmoil, many believe that the KDP and PUK’s grip on power is weakening. Activists like Chawder Mahdi are confident that the Kurdish people will not remain silent forever.
